Starting from a drawing, this cardboard, fiberglass, and wood-glue monstrosity came to life. DIY Ringflashes are a great alternative to the ridiculously expensive “ringflashes” that are available online, which only come in limited sizes and usually only sport one flash.
Mine was far different, offering the option to “even” out the lighting from top to bottom with two flashes. This also gives the option to adjust the power accordingly for top or bottom lighting.
The initial idea / sketch of what I wanted to make
Cut out the shape for the ring and the sides
Glueing the inner cricle on
Masking taped the pieces on to dry

Looking good!
Guesstimating where to put the ‘holds’
Starting the light “funnels” where the flashes will direct the light into the ring.

Trying to expidite the drying process
Lined the inside with glue for extra strength
Adding tinfoil (reflects the light inside, also minimizes the amount of light leak)
Cut holes for the flashes
Made the top piece for the light “funnels”
Light funnel #1 complete
Glued the light “funnels” to the ring, and started adding some dry wall filler to smooth it out
Dried / unsanded filler
Began cutting “holds” for the flashes. The purpose of these is to hold the flash inside the ring
More glueing and taping…
Testing to see it fits…
More dry wall filler to smooth it out
Made a make-shift “bracket” to be able to put the camera / lens on
