Privacy Policy

Coltography.ca is the personal website of Colton Onushko, based in British Columbia, Canada. This page explains what information the site collects, why, and what you can do about it. In short: I collect as little as possible, I don’t sell anything about you, and there are no ads.
Contact form
If you use the contact form, it sends me your name, email address and message. These arrive as an email in my mailbox (hosted by Apple iCloud Mail) and are not stored on the website itself. I use them only to read and reply to your message. I don’t add you to any mailing list, and I keep messages only as long as I need them.
To block spam, the form uses Cloudflare Turnstile, which checks that a real person is sending it. Cloudflare processes technical information about your browser and connection for this check.
Hosting, security and server logs
The site runs on a server I operate myself in Canada. Like almost every website, the server keeps logs of visits: your IP address, the date and time, the page requested, the referring page, and your browser’s user agent. These logs are used to keep the site running and to detect and block attacks, and they are kept only for a limited time.
Traffic passes through Cloudflare, which protects the site and speeds it up. Cloudflare processes your IP address and request details and may set strictly necessary security cookies (for example to tell people apart from bots). See Cloudflare’s privacy policy.
The server also uses CrowdSec, open-source security software that reads the server logs to spot malicious behaviour (such as login attacks or scanning) and blocks the IP addresses involved. When an attack is detected, the attacking IP address, the type of behaviour and the time may be shared with the CrowdSec community blocklist so other sites can protect themselves. Normal visits are not shared. See CrowdSec’s privacy policy.
Analytics
To understand which pages are useful, I may use privacy-friendly analytics that I host myself, rather than Google Analytics or other advertising-based services. These record visits in aggregate: pages viewed, the referring site, browser and device type, screen size, and approximate country (worked out from your IP address). IP addresses are not used to build a profile of you, and the statistics are never sold or used for advertising. Cloudflare may also provide basic, aggregated traffic statistics.
Affiliate links and link tracking
Some links on this site are affiliate links. If you buy something through one, I may earn a small commission at no extra cost to you. I only link to things I use or would recommend.
Some links go through a short-link service that I run myself, which counts how many times each link is clicked. A click records the link, the date and time, the page it was clicked from, browser and device type, and approximate country. Your IP address may be processed briefly to count unique clicks and filter out bots, but it is not used to identify you.
Once you reach the other website (for example a store), that company collects information under its own privacy policy and may set cookies so the purchase is credited to me. I don’t receive any personal information about you or what you bought, only totals.
Embedded content and links to other sites
Posts may include embedded content such as YouTube videos. Embedded content behaves as if you visited the other site directly: that site may collect data about you, set cookies, and track your interaction with it. Links to my social media profiles and other websites are governed by those sites’ own policies.
Cookies and browser storage
This site does not set advertising or tracking cookies. It uses your browser’s temporary session storage for small display preferences (for example, so the logo animation plays only once per visit); this stays in your browser and is cleared when you close the tab. Cloudflare may set strictly necessary security cookies, and embedded content and affiliate partners may set their own cookies as described above. You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings.
What I don’t do
- I don’t sell, rent or trade your personal information.
- I don’t show ads or use advertising trackers.
- I don’t have user accounts or comments, so there is nothing else to store about you.
Your choices and rights
You can ask what personal information I hold about you, ask me to correct it, or ask me to delete it (for example, a message you sent through the contact form). Just get in touch through the contact page and I’ll respond as soon as I can.
Children
This site is not directed at children under 13, and I don’t knowingly collect personal information from them.
Changes to this policy
If the way the site handles information changes, I’ll update this page and the date at the top.
